De Moerenaar Cheese Farm is an artisanal cheese farm in the flat polder region along the Flemish West Coast, located in the westernmost corner of the French border. De Moeren, a submunicipality of Veurne (West Flanders), has a long history of land reclamation and flooding.
More than 20 years ago, Tine Denoo, wife of Lieven Dewicke, started making cheese. "We learned the tricks of the trade as we went along," she still says enthusiastically. First, from bucket to bucket, and later, with the expert help of cheesemaker Lucien, approximately 3,000 liters of milk were processed daily into delicious farm cheese. In 2017, it was their son Thijs and his wife Lien's turn, following in the footsteps of the previous generation as young cheesemakers. With a brand-new cheese dairy, also on the farm, growth is unstoppable, and they supply artisanal cheeses to various food chains and wholesalers.
